Q: I saw your video on YouTube and was impressed. My
Ruckus/Metropolitan barely gets out of the garage. What did you do to
get that type of performance? A: All of the bikes that we personally ride here at 970 have been max tuned. There is no one part that makes them as fast as they are, it is a harmony of many different bolt on parts, custom engine work, as well as precision tuning that gives them power and speed throughout the entire operating range. As a base we always recommend our Mile High Tune as a way to get your bike running as well or better than the day it was brand new. For more information visit our Services page.
Q: I have read up as much as possible on engine upgrades and it really seems to go back and forth with upgrading the factory Honda engine vs. dropping in a Chinese 150cc. Is the overall cost equivalent? i.e., slowly upgrading for better performance out of the stock motor vs. just going all in and putting a bigger motor in there? A: At 970 we believe in retaining the heart and soul of your Honda scooter. If you wanted to go fast out of the box for cheap you would have just gotten a Chinese 150cc right? Riders love the looks and attitude of the Ruckus, despite it's shortcomings with respect to power and top speed. There are two main things you need to keep in mind when considering a swap: Are you willing to sacrifice the reliability of your Japanese engine by putting in a Chinese engine, and are you willing to go the extra distance in converting your scooter to a full fledged motorcycle. Here in Colorado you don't need registration, insurance, or a Class M License to ride a 49cc, when you swap in a 150cc you'll either have to get those things or ride your scooter illegally.
